Wine or Beer? Why pick just one. In this exciting class presented by Chip's and Outer Banks Wine University you will enjoy a selection of red and white wines along with a selection of craft beers!
Join us for this fun and educational class! We'll try 4 different wines, walking through each of the 4 tasting steps, learning about and evaluating each of the wines. You will learn which foods pair the best with each one, sip on some fabulous wines and untangle wines mysteries. Then we will delve into the world of craft beer while we guide you through an introduction of the world of craft beer. Learn about the history or beer, different beer styles and processes all while trying 4 craft beers and comparing styles. This class is perfect for "mixed marriages" & "mixed couples," he likes beer she likes wine. Don't miss a sure fire fun time! 4 wines/4 beers/cheese/chocolates

Last weekend while Hurricane Sandy was rolling in, I was attending a business conference for Women who Wow! These were all women business owners working together to help each other in our businesses. It doesn't get any better than that. Women flew, drove and made their way to the area…Because when you own your business you never get to stop doing business, even when there is a hurricane. But, back at the stores (where my mind always is…even in the wee hours of the night  =) )thank goodness the Outer Banks mostly went unscathed. There were some businesses in the Outer Banks that took a hit and took it hard. Some are friends, some are customers (some are both).  Although, we are out of the busy season, it still makes an impact on our economy. So please consider shopping in the Outer Banks this holiday season for your gifts. We have many great and unique businesses and a gift certificate is always a great gift as well!

Smoke Screen Chardonnay!

The cool thing is because of the times we live in, there are great opportunities to buy finished wine from high end wineries that, quite simply, are bottling less wine than they have in the past. This gives everyone  the chance to buy these wines at a fraction of the cost. I used to work for a wine company that did just that and I really got used to drinking wines that tasted ALOT more expensive than they were.

So what is so special about this wine is that is comes from a Napa Valley chardonnay producing legend. This well known wine retails for $35-$40 a bottle under its famous winery label (which they are not allowed to divulge), hence the name Smoke Screen Chardonnay! So you can buy a top 5 premium Napa Chardonnay that had too much wine that he sold in a fire sale to someone who re-labeled it. 

If you didn't get reservations for tonight's wine dinner, that's okay…you'll still be able to grab a bottle here at the KDH store, while supplies last! It's 100% Barrell fermented, with a creamy texture of peach and citrus with a hint of minerality. The tropical fruit really shines

through and it has a nice long finish.  $23.99

So for the second year, one of our distributors brought to us to taste some fabulous wines from Small Vineyards Importers. Small Vineyards is a company that finds some of the smallest vineyards in Italy and imports their wines to the U.S.  So it is a real treat to get to taste them each year.  We had some of our favorites last year and ordered plenty. Most of it is sold out, although we do have a few bottles left of the Tre Donne D'Arc, a red blend of Barbera, Pinot Noir, Dolcetto and Freisa.  The story behind this vineyard is even more amazing!

As much as Alessandro Lequio loved his daughters, there was no way he was going to hand over the family vineyard to women. (According to his wife, Donna Bruna, Alessandro actually cried for half an hour when their third and final child, Daniela, was born!) Four generations of fathers had handed the estate down to their sons, and even though he handn’t had a boy, Alessandro would be damned if the family business was going to be run by the fairer sex.
