Outer Banks Wine University is where wine knowledge and fun come together.

Take a break from beach weather in our groovy classroom to sip wine and untangle wine’s mysteries – minus the snobbery. You won’t find white tablecloths or sterling silver sipping cups here. We pride ourselves on making wine approachable and fun for everyone. It is just grape juice after all. Chip, our own profestsor of wine, started in the wine business 20 years ago -- when Back to the Future was on the big screen, Madonna was singing Crazy for You and most of us had really bad hairdos. While we were trying to find a decent haircut, he was becoming a walking database of wine knowledge. Chip takes the snobbery out and puts the fun into learning about wine. He’s passionate and funny, intelligent and energetic. Chip and our visiting wine experts will provide you with a wealth of information and a few hours of entertainment.

We offer classes at every level, from the beginner to the collector. Everyone can learn something in our classroom. And, if you already know it all, submit a course outline. Maybe you’ll be on the next class schedule.

We are right next door to Front Porch Café, Glazin’ Go Nuts, paint-your-own pottery, and Garden of Beadin’. Bring the whole gang.


Wine Tasting 101

Wine doesn’t have to be scary. This is a fun, snob-free lesson in how the wine gets to the bottle and how to appreciate it as it passes your lips. No white tablecloths. Just plain fun.

Wine Tasting 201

Once you’ve learned the basics in 101, this class will take you a step farther. What difference does the “terroir” make? What the heck is “terroir”? Is Chianti a place or a grape? Chip will walk you through winemaking regions of the world and their impact on the wine, the most common grape varieties and much, much more.
